Opening my home care business has been challenging and has certainly kept me busy. However it is also been fun and it is the next phase in my life. Each chapter in our lives we experience new challenges and new rewards. Life would be dull if we did not keep reinventing ourselves by giving ourselves new experiences.
I have worked as an RN for several years mostly in management; however I have worked in most areas of nursing. Especially Oncology nursing units in acute hospitals and in discharge planning. I have loved being a nurse and have always been glad that I chose this profession. Nursing has taught me to enjoy life because it is very fragile and can end before you are ready for the final goodbye.
Nurses know that death is the final chapter of all lives. So nurses are there to comfort the dying hoping that no one ever dies alone They also bring hope and comfort to people experiencing anything from the flu (When you think your dying ) or minor surgery to catastrophic illness.
Nurses put the care in the health care industry. Nurses make the difference in how patients experience their illness. Nursing is a profession of caring. It challenges every emotion that a human can experience. Nursing jobs vary a great deal depending on the type of work that the nurse is doing but all have demands and rewards.
I really enjoyed bedside nursing and did not plan to seek a career in management.
However one day a coworker said to me “As a bedside nurse you affect the care given to one patient. As a manager you have an effect on the care given to many patients”
After those inspired words I began my career in management which I have done for 25 years.
I have embarked on the business of home care in which my goal is always to make a difference in people’s lives.
It does come 2nd as a love in my life only followed by my two sons, daughter in law and my two outstanding grandchildren.
